The funding program "Zwanzig20 – Partnerschaft für Innovation" was launched by the BMBF Federal Ministry of Education and Research and is financed with up to EUR 500 million until 2019. Its goal is to support innovation competence in Eastern Germany, especially for small and medium-sized companies, so that they can work together with research and large industry across borders and sectors and form long-term partnerships. Apart from to the expansion of a green hydrogen economy, the development of new products in pharmacy or in building materials technology are also among the ten funded project consortia. Even though the innovation project focuses on Eastern Germany, the program promotes cooperations across the country. As a result, locally dispersed know-how is transferred beyond national borders and solutions are worked on in an association of industry and science.
